An interactive article exploring chess pieces (including chess variant pieces), and why and how some are colorbound, i.e. can't move to all squares on a chessboard.

Created for SoME3 (Summer of Math Exposition 3), an event organized by the YouTube channel 3Blue1Brown to encourage people to create explanations of math or math-related subjects in any online medium. Check out other entries too!

Awesome article! A lot of the concepts touched on in the article are things that I've encountered at one point or another, but having them all linked together by this problem gave me a new understanding of all of them! AND, I got to play around with chess pieces without shame of being terrible at the game itself!
